A guided walk through Lowther’s evolving woodlands — from commercial plantations to ancient native stands and the forests of the future - exploring the rich mix of tree species and ground flora, uncovering the history that shaped these woods and discussing the modern challenges facing timber production, woodland management and nature recovery.

There are two sessions for this event: 12 noon and 2pm.  Please select your session time when booking your tickets.

Please note: The route is uneven in places so sturdy footwear and a reasonable level of fitness is essential. This session is recommended for ages 12+.

Parking: Please note that the meeting point for this walk is 1km away from the closest carpark. The two closest parking options are:

  • Sawmill Carpark (near Askham Bridge) - a 1km flat walk along a gravel path to the walk meeting point at Low Garden's Bridge.
  • Lowther Castle and Gardens, Lowther, Penrith, CA10 2HH - a 1.5km downhill walk across grassy paths and gravel trails.
