There is a café in the courtyard which normally opens at 10am. Closing time is 5pm in summer and 4pm in winter with ‘last orders’ 15 minutes before closing. Hot food is available up to 3pm in summer and 2pm in winter.
There is a also a small takeaway (Into the Woods) inside the gardens near the Lost Castle play area but please note this is not open every day. It is usually open at weekends in the high season and all week in the Easter and summer school holidays but please phone to check before visiting specially.
We do not take reservations for tables in our cafe.
No. The courtyard cafe is open to everyone.
Dogs are welcome everywhere EXCEPT the Lost Castle children's play area.
Please keep your dog on a lead at all times.
Please pick up after your dog (poo bags are available to buy in the shop).
You are welcome to take your dog into the cafe but we ask that you keep them from lying in the aisles.
Visitors of all abilities are welcome at Lowther. Some terrain however is not suitable for wheelchairs. Ask at Admissions if you would like advice.
Mobility scooters are welcome inside the exhibition and gardens but we do not have any for hire.
We have two manual wheelchairs available which you may borrow for your time in the gardens but we strongly recommend you call ahead to check availability - we are happy to reserve one for you if you call in advance.
If you would like to drop less mobile passengers off close to the castle, please call 01931 712192 and we will come out to assist.
Yes, using any of the lawned areas. Please leave tables and chairs free to be used by visitors who are choosing to dine with us from our cafés or takeaway.
The play area is part of our gardens so a ticket is required.
If you are visiting us and spend £5.00 or more in the cafe, shop or admissions then parking is free but you must enter your car reg. number at the till when you pay (please remember to write your car number down if you can't remember it - it can be a long way back to your car if you don't remember your number!). The above also applies to those of you who have bought your tickets online - ask to enter your car reg. number when you check in at the admission tills.
You are welcome to just use the car park to go for a walk round the area but there is a £2 a day charge. Payment can be made on the RingGo app or you can pay the £2 at our admission tills (remember to bring your car reg. number with you).
Note that it is all day parking so you are welcome to pay at the end of your stay but remember to do it before 6pm as you will be charged our night rate of £100.
Yes, but please note that overnight parking is not permitted. If you would like to visit us for the day and you have a motorhome you are very welcome to, but we would ask that you use the overflow car park as the main car park is not large enough for most motorhomes and campervans.
There are toilets in the courtyard and near the Lost Castle children's play area.
We offer a 20% discount off the full price adult ticket to anyone with an English Heritage membership card. Please make sure every adult wanting to claim the discount brings their own membership card. Please note we do not offer the English Heritage discounts on family tickets, the child ticket, or any other items.
